Core Energetics & Trauma Therapy
Cutting edge research on trauma and PTSD has revealed that working with the body is essential for healing. However, a common concern of using body-oriented therapies like Core Energetics with trauma clients is that there is always a risk of re-traumatization. Because the body is already in a chronic state of autonomic nervous system arousal, and some body oriented techniques do not provide enough containment, clients feel overwhelmed and flooded with painful energy.
In these workshops, we will focus on understanding the neurobiological effects of trauma, and use that information to learn how to safely integrate Core Energetics within a trauma oriented framework. Therapists will learn through practice sessions how to provide containment through sequencing and individualizing their work with clients, and understanding the role of the therapeutic relationship. We will also discuss therapist self-care, and explore ways to minimize vicarious traumatization.
This workshop is for new and experienced therapists, who want to use body-oriented techniques to help their clients transform their trauma.
