2009 Summer Retreat for Women in Costa Rica
August 15-22, 2009
Spend seven nights in bio diverse paradise. Join psychotherapist Joanne Bagshaw in the mountains of Costa Rica for a week designed for women wanting to create and/or sustain a healthy and meaningful life. Imagine waking up in paradise, eating a delicious meal, connecting with a group of women and spending the rest of the day exploring waterfalls, butterfly farms and volcanoes, or have a canopy adventure! Safely swing from tree to tree while harnessed to a zip line and explore the jungle below. Or feel free to sleep in late and spend the day in a hammock, nestled in the gardens of Pure Vida Spa, reading a book and watching the birds and butterflies.
My intention for this week will be to help you connect with what you need more of in your life, and then we will practice cultivating and receiving it all week. We will be using the power of intention and Core Energetics exercises. Core Energetics is a body-centered psychotherapy that works with energy, movement and consciousness. In this retreat, Core exercises will be used to help support you in connecting with the group and refining your goals for the week. We will also explore how to integrate your experience in Costa Rica when you are back at home. Plan on returning home feeling empowered and reenergized. We will have group work and activities with plenty of time to explore spectacular Costa Rica and enjoy the beauty and amenities of the Pure Vida Spa.
Your stay includes workshops with Joanne Bagshaw, accommodations, three healthy and delicious meals per day, and transportation to and from the San Jose airport. The Pure Vida Spa has a pool and a hot tub overlooking the valley. Wellness services, additional Pura Vida yoga classes and eco-tours are extra and moderately priced.

Trauma Therapy & Core Energetics
January 9, 2010
Cutting edge research on trauma and PTSD has revealed that working with the body is essential for healing. However, a common concern of using body-oriented therapies like Core Energetics with trauma clients is that there is always a risk of re-traumatization. Because the body is already in a chronic state of autonomic nervous system arousal, and some body oriented techniques do not provide enough containment, clients feel overwhelmed and flooded with painful energy.
In this workshop, we will focus on integrating Core Energetics within a trauma oriented framework. Therapists will learn through practice sessions how to provide containment through sequencing and individualizing their work with clients, and understanding the role of the therapeutic relationship.
This workshop is for new and experienced therapists, who want to use body-oriented techniques to help their clients transform their trauma.
10:00 a.m.— 5:00 p.m.
Joanne Bagshaw, MA, is a licensed mental health counselor and doctoral candidate. She has 15 years experience working with trauma, focused mostly on issues of abuse, rape, and sexual assault. She has post graduate training in International Trauma Studies from NYU and Core Energetics.
