Sex and Couples Therapy in
Charleston, South Carolina
Support for connection through changing schedules, family responsibilities, and life transitions.
Building a life together involves more than finding time on the calendar. You may be navigating a move, adjusting to parenthood, managing different work schedules, or trying to reconnect after time apart. Even when you want the same things—closeness, understanding, and a satisfying relationship—you may feel caught in conversations that go nowhere.
Joanne Bagshaw & Associates offers online therapy for individuals and couples in Charleston who want to understand these patterns and find different ways of relating. Our specialties include sex therapy, ADHD and executive functioning, trauma, military-family concerns, and parenting and relationship therapy.
Our systemic approach considers not only what happens between partners, but also the expectations, histories, and responsibilities each person brings into the relationship.
Sex Therapy for More Honest Conversations About Intimacy
You may love your partner and still find sex difficult to discuss. Perhaps you have different levels of desire, worry about disappointing each other, or avoid intimacy because it has become associated with pressure.
Our approach gives these conversations the time and attention they need. We explore emotional connection, sexual expectations, identity, personal history, and the experiences that shape what feels comfortable or difficult. The aim is not to make one partner accommodate the other, but to help you understand each other and develop mutually respectful ways of connecting.
Parenting and Relationship Therapy for a More Collaborative Home
Parenting may bring up questions that are also relationship questions: Who notices what needs to be done? Whose work takes priority? How do you respond when you disagree about a child’s needs?
We help parents examine these patterns without losing sight of the care and intentions underneath them. Sessions may focus on communicating about parenting differences, sharing planning responsibilities, setting boundaries, and rebuilding a relationship that goes beyond managing family logistics.
We also welcome individual parents who want space to explore their own stress, identity, relationships, and needs.
When ADHD Becomes Part of the Same Argument
“You never listen.”
“I’m trying, but nothing I do seems to be enough.”
When conversations keep returning to forgotten plans, unfinished tasks, or interruptions, it can be difficult to separate the practical problem from the hurt surrounding it. ADHD-related difficulties with attention, planning, and follow-through may be one part of that picture.
Our work does not treat either partner as the problem. We explore the difference between intention and impact while developing clearer agreements and practical supports. That might mean breaking down shared responsibilities, creating more useful reminders, or finding ways to return to a conversation after attention has shifted.
We also consider how these interactions affect affection, desire, and the ability to feel present with each other.
